Currency Converter
🇦🇺 Australia version
Australians price flights, online orders and holidays in US dollars all the time. This converter begins by turning Australian dollars into US dollars, pulls daily rates when the page opens, and tells you if it is showing a stored table instead.

Australia rules and figures
- On the Australian page the first selection is the Australian dollar, paired with the US dollar.
- Only if daily rates do not load does the built-in early-2024 table apply, with 1.52 Australian dollars per US dollar.
- GST of 10% is included in Australian shelf prices, so a converted local price already contains tax.
- Some Australian goods carry no GST whatsoever, because the supply is GST-free.

How the currency converter works
The tool keeps one number per currency, the units equal to a US dollar, and converts through it. For Australian dollars to US dollars it divides by the Australian dollar figure.
USD = AUD amount ÷ AUD per USD; inverse = AUD per USD
- The From box opens on AUD and the To box on USD, and a menu change replaces either default.
- A badge says Daily rates or Built-in table (early 2024), and the second also appears in a toast message.
- The stored table lists 1.52 Australian dollars per US dollar, which gives 789.47 USD for 1,200.00 AUD.
- The Compare tab lists every currency against USD in one table.
- Add to Favorites keeps a pair you use often.
How to use the currency converter
- Enter an amount. Type the amount in the Amount box. The default is 100, and the Quick Conversions grid lists eight preset amounts for the same pair.
- Choose the currencies. Pick the From and To currencies from the menus; use the arrow button between them to swap the pair. Until you pick, From is your country's currency.
- Read the result. The Conversion Result card shows the converted amount, the exchange rate and its inverse. The Copy button puts the line on the clipboard; the line under the card shows when the rates were updated.
- Keep or compare pairs. Add to History records the conversion, Add to Favorites keeps the pair, and the Compare tab lists every currency's rate against USD.
- Do arithmetic first. On the Calculator tab, use the keypad, then press Use in Converter to send the result to the Amount box.
Example: 1,200.00 AUD to US dollars using the stored table
These figures come from the fallback table, not a current rate. The table holds 1.52 Australian dollars per US dollar, which turns 1,200.00 AUD into 789.47 USD after division. Under the result you would read 1 AUD = 0.657895 USD, and the inverse line would give 1 USD = 1.520000 AUD. With live data the provider's daily figures replace these, and your answer will be different.
When to use the currency converter
- Buying from a US shop. Switch to USD and AUD, enter the price and see roughly what it costs in Australian dollars.
- Budgeting a US holiday. Convert a weekly budget and use the Quick Conversions grid for round numbers.
- Reading a USD salary or invoice. Type the amount in US dollars and read it in AUD.
- Chaining arithmetic first. Add up several prices on the Calculator tab and send the total to the converter.
What the currency converter does not do
- Rates are daily mid-market figures, and a bank or card network will quote its own.
- Without a successful fetch the table from early 2024 is used, and it may differ greatly from today.
- The list is limited to 14 currencies plus Bitcoin and Ethereum.
- The tool does not add or remove GST.
- There is no fee estimate.
When something else is a better fit
- When you are transferring real money, use the rate your bank or transfer provider quotes before you confirm.
- When you are travelling and thinking in local prices, use the Travel Currency Converter.
- When you are trading digital assets, use the Cryptocurrency Calculator.
