    Invoice Generator

    🇦🇺 Australia version

In Australia a document that charges GST is usually called a tax invoice, and it carries the seller's ABN. This generator opens in Australian dollars with GST at 10%, adds an ABN box under your details and switches the document title to Tax invoice whenever the GST rate is above zero.

    Australia rules and figures

    • Australian GST adds 10% to most goods and services, with the tax already inside the shelf price a shopper sees.
    • Basic food, many health and education supplies and some exports are GST-free, which this generator treats as a rate of 0%.
    • The Tax invoice heading appears on this page only when the GST rate is above zero; at 0% the heading is Invoice.
    • The business number field is labelled ABN, and its value prints under the seller's details in the PDF.
    • The ATO says a tax invoice must be provided within 28 days of a buyer's request, except for sales of $82.50 including GST or less.

    How the invoice generator works

Quantity times rate gives each line. The discount comes off the subtotal, and GST at the rate you set is charged on the reduced amount. If the GST rate is zero, the heading goes back to plain Invoice.

    total = (subtotal − subtotal × discount%) × (1 + GST rate), each step rounded to $0.01

    • GST starts at 10%. The menu beside it also offers a GST-free choice at 0%, for supplies such as basic food or most health and education services, and you can type any rate.
    • The ABN box sits under From (Your Information). Its value prints as "ABN:" followed by your number in the PDF. It is shown as typed and not looked up.
    • The PDF and preview heading reads Tax invoice with GST charged, and Invoice with a 0% rate, so a GST-free job is not mislabelled.
    • Dates follow the day, month, year order and the currency opens as AUD. Changing the currency alters the symbol only.
    • The invoice draft is saved in your browser while you type, and lines you delete can be restored from the list below the items.

How to use the invoice generator

    1. Choose the number, dates and GST. Enter an invoice number, check both dates, and keep GST at 10% or choose the GST-free rate if the supply is exempt.
    2. Fill in your ABN and the buyer. Put your ABN in the business number box, then add the buyer's name and address.
    3. Enter each charge. Add a line for every item or service, giving a description, a quantity and a price per unit in dollars.
    4. Review and download. The preview shows the Tax invoice heading and the GST line. Export the PDF or copy the text.

Example: Two lines, no discount, GST at 10%

Take 40 hours at $75 (3,000.00) and 12 units at $45.50 (546.00). The subtotal is $3,546.00 and no discount applies. GST at 10% is $354.60, so the total is $3,900.60 and the document is titled Tax invoice. Set the GST rate to 0 for the same work as a GST-free supply and the total drops to $3,546.00 under the heading Invoice.

When to use the invoice generator

    • Invoicing as a GST-registered sole trader. Enter your ABN and 10% GST, and the heading changes to Tax invoice for the PDF.
    • Mixed jobs with a GST-free item. Make one invoice at 10% and another at 0% when a job includes GST-free supplies.
    • Checking a supplier's total. Type their lines and discount to see whether GST on the discounted amount matches their figure.
    • Quotes before GST registration. Set the rate to 0 and the heading stays Invoice, which suits a plain quote or a bill without GST.

What the invoice generator does not do

    • A single GST rate and a single discount cover the whole document. A job with taxable and GST-free lines needs two invoices.
    • Prices are treated as GST-exclusive. To start from a GST-inclusive price, divide it by 1.1 first.
    • The ABN is printed as typed. The tool does not check it against the ABN Lookup register.
    • It does not decide what must appear on a tax invoice. Check the ATO's requirements for your sales.
    • Changing the currency changes the symbol and does not convert amounts.
    • There is no logo upload, and the PDF font covers Latin characters only.

When something else is a better fit

    • When you lodge business activity statements and send many invoices, use accounting software that reports GST.
    • When you want to estimate income tax on your earnings, use the Tax Calculator.
    • When you are testing a discount first, use the Discount Calculator.

    Questions about the invoice generator

When does the document say Tax invoice?

Whenever the GST rate is above zero. Set the rate to 0 and the heading and PDF title change to Invoice.

What GST rate is the starting figure?

10%, the standard Australian rate. The menu also has a GST-free option at 0%, and you can type your own rate.

Is GST charged on the discounted amount?

Yes. On a $3,546.00 subtotal with no discount GST is $354.60. With 10% off it would be charged on $3,191.40 and come to $319.14.

Where do I enter my ABN?

In the ABN box under From (Your Information). It prints as ABN followed by the number under your address in the PDF.

    Is my invoice uploaded?

No. The PDF is generated in your browser and the draft is stored locally, so it disappears if you clear site data.
