# Seasonal Activity Suggestions

In Australia the page opens on the southern season for today's month, so December to February is Summer and September to November is Spring, as the Bureau of Meteorology counts them. The Southern setting starts on. Forty ideas can then be filtered by setting, company, cost and length, and the ones you like saved to a list.

## Australia rules and figures

- For Bureau of Meteorology purposes, Australia's Summer is December to February and its Winter is June to August.
- Autumn falls in March to May and Spring in September to November on the same Bureau calendar.
- Northern Australia's year divides into wet months, October to April, and dry months, May to September.

## How the seasonal activity suggestions tool works

Each idea is tagged by season, setting, company, cost and minutes. The season buttons use southern months, but the ideas under each season name are the same ones used everywhere.

- Spring shows 21 ideas, Summer 23, Autumn 21 and Winter 24 once the 14 any-season ideas are counted in.
- Because Summer follows the southern months, the Summer tab appears in December to February. The ideas keep their tags, so check each card's note against your own weather.
- Cost bands are Free, Cheap and Costs something, and the length filter stops at 45, 90 or 180 minutes.
- Turning the Southern setting off moves the selected season six months on. Saved hearts and ticks are kept in this browser.

## How to use the seasonal activity suggestions tool

1. **Pick a season.** Press Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring. The page selects the season for the current Australian month when it loads.
2. **Add conditions.** Use the drop-downs for indoors or outdoors, who is joining and how much you want to spend.
3. **Set a time limit.** Choose Under 45 min or a longer cap if you only have a short window.
4. **Shuffle, then save.** Press Shuffle for another order and tap the heart on the ideas you want to do.
5. **Copy the saved list.** Copy list gives the saved titles as text you can send to friends.

## Example: November in Australia: a free Spring hour

In November Spring is selected. Setting the cost to Free and the length to Under 45 min leaves four of the 21 Spring ideas: phoning someone you have been meaning to phone (30 minutes), learning five local birds or trees (45), a walk with no destination and no phone (45), and finding the first blossom to photograph the same tree weekly (20).

## When to use the seasonal activity suggestions tool

- **A Summer evening plan.** Select Summer, Outdoors and Free, then read the stay-out-until-dark and outdoor-meal ideas.
- **Something for a Winter weekend.** Choose Winter and Indoors to see cooking, long reading and learning ideas.
- **A day out with children.** Pick Spring, Outdoors, With children and Under 90 min to get a short list.
- **Saving ideas for the holidays.** Heart a few ideas in each season, then copy the list to share.

## What the seasonal activity suggestions tool does not do

- The dawn chorus note says late April to early June, and the meteor note names August and December, so the note months do not follow the southern season buttons.
- The wet season in the north is not modelled, so outdoor ideas in the tropics may not fit the season label.
- The ideas contain no local events, venues or weather checks.
- Saved ideas and ticks stay in this browser on this device.

## When something else is a better fit

- **When you want household jobs for the season**, use the [Seasonal Checklist](https://aumnitools.com/tool/seasonal-checklist.md).
- **When you want something to plant this month**, use the [Garden Planner](https://aumnitools.com/tool/garden-planner.md).
- **When you need real events and opening times**, use a local council or tourism listings page.

## Questions about the seasonal activity suggestions tool

### Which season is selected in November?

Spring. The Bureau of Meteorology counts September to November as Spring, and the Southern setting is on by default for Australia, so the Spring button is chosen on load.

### Does the dawn chorus idea suit an Australian spring?

The note was written for the northern spring. In Australia, treat it as a hint about the bird season rather than a date, and check local conditions.

### What does the Southern setting do?

It moves the chosen season six months on when switched off, and it is on by default for Australia. Press any season button to override it.

### How many ideas does each season show?

Spring 21, Summer 23, Autumn 21 and Winter 24 before other filters, because 14 of the 40 ideas carry the any-season tag.

### Where are saved ideas stored?

In this browser's local storage. Another device or cleared data starts with no saved ideas.
