    Seasonal Activity Suggestions

    🇨🇦 Canada version

In Canada the page calls the third season Fall and opens on the season that holds today's month, with Winter as December to February, a split that follows Environment and Climate Change Canada. It filters 40 ideas by setting, company, cost and time, and keeps the ones you save.

    Canada rules and figures

    • In Environment and Climate Change Canada's records, the winter that begins in December is filed under the next year.
    • In this tool Spring covers March, April and May, Summer covers June, July and August, and Fall covers September, October and November.
    • The September to November season is called Fall on Canadian pages here, not Autumn.

Sources: Environment and Climate Change Canada: Temperature change in Canada (checked 2026-11-08); AAFC: 30-year average frost-free period (0 °C) (checked 2026-11-08)

How the seasonal activity suggestions tool works

Each idea carries seasons, a setting, company, a cost band and minutes. A season button keeps its own ideas plus the any-season ones, and the other filters remove more.

    • The season counts are Spring 21, Summer 23, Fall 21 and Winter 24, with 14 ideas tagged for any season.
    • The Fall list includes foraging, preserving, a three-hour cook and watching weather from a safe place.
    • The length filter offers Under 45 min, Under 90 min and Under 3 hours, and cost has three bands.
    • The Southern switch is off for Canada. Saved and done lists stay in this browser.

How to use the seasonal activity suggestions tool

    1. Pick a season. Press Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter. The page selects the season for the current month.
    2. Choose the setting and cost. Open the three drop-downs to choose indoors or outdoors, a kind of company and a cost band.
    3. Set how long you have. Cap the length at 45 minutes or longer if you can.
    4. Shuffle and save. Press Shuffle for a different order, then heart the ideas worth keeping.
    5. Copy your list. Copy list turns the saved titles into plain text.

Example: A Fall outing with children in Canada

With Fall chosen, setting Outdoors, company With children and length Under 90 min leaves two of the 21 Fall ideas: planting something you will still be looking at in ten years (60 minutes) and learning to identify five local birds or trees (45).

When to use the seasonal activity suggestions tool

    • Picking a Fall weekend plan. Choose Fall and Outdoors, then shuffle to see a walk, foraging or a weather-watching trip.
    • Winter evenings at home. Pick Winter and Indoors to see long cooks, reading and a jigsaw.
    • A free summer hour. Choose Summer, Free and Under 90 min to find short outdoor ideas.
    • Making a family shortlist. Save a few ideas and copy them to a message.

What the seasonal activity suggestions tool does not do

    • The ideas ignore the region. A winter idea that suits one province may not suit another, and there are no temperature or weather checks.
    • The foraging idea warns to eat nothing you cannot identify with complete certainty.
    • The tool has no events, venues or opening times.
    • Saved ideas and ticks are stored in this browser only.

When something else is a better fit

    • When you want a list of household jobs for the season, use the Seasonal Checklist.
    • When you want planting months and bed counts, use the Garden Planner.
    • When you need real events and times, use a local listings site or your municipality's events page.

Questions about the seasonal activity suggestions tool

Why does it say Fall instead of Autumn?

Canadian usage calls September to November Fall, so the button and the list use that name. It is the same set of ideas that other countries label Autumn.

    How are Winter months counted?

December, January and February. Environment and Climate Change Canada counts December as part of the following year's winter, and the page opens Winter for those months.

Can I get a southern season?

Yes. Switch the Southern setting on, or press any season button. The default for Canada is off.

What do the cost bands mean?

Free, Cheap and Costs something are coarse bands with no money amounts. Only one of the 40 ideas sits in the top band.

    Where do saved ideas go?

Into this browser's local storage. They do not sync, and clearing site data removes them.
