Invoice Generator
🇳🇿 New Zealand version
New Zealand has one GST rate, 15%, so an invoice for a GST-registered business needs the tax shown and the supplier's GST number printed. This page opens in New Zealand dollars at 15%, with a GST number box under your details, a discount field and a PDF download.

New Zealand rules and figures
- New Zealand GST is a single standard rate of 15%, and the tool's rate menu holds just that one entry.
- The business number box is labelled GST number and its text appears under the seller's address on the PDF.
- The page starts in New Zealand dollars with GST at 15%, and a draft or a currency you pick overrides those starting values.

How the invoice generator works
Each line is quantity times price. The discount reduces the subtotal and GST is charged on that smaller amount. The tool rounds to the cent after every step so the printed lines add up.
total = (subtotal − subtotal × discount%) × (1 + GST rate), each step rounded to $0.01
- GST starts at 15%, the only standard rate in the data. A 0% choice is not listed, but you can type 0 in the GST rate (%) box for a zero-rated sale.
- Enter your registration under From (Your Information) in the box called GST number. It prints in the PDF as typed and is not validated.
- The heading stays Invoice at every rate. Only Australia switches the title to Tax invoice.
- The currency opens as NZD and dates are day first. Another currency changes the symbol and nothing else.
- Your draft is kept in this browser as you type, with the earlier draft saved as a version, and removed lines can be restored.
How to use the invoice generator
- Number and date the invoice. Set an invoice number, the date and the due date, then adjust any discount and check that the currency is NZD.
- Add the GST number and customer. Type your GST number in your own block and the customer's name and address in theirs.
- List the work. Use one row per charge, with a description, a quantity and a price for each unit.
- Check, then save. Look over the preview for the GST line and total, then download the PDF or copy the text for an email.
Example: Three items, 10% off, 15% GST
Charge 40 hours at $75 ($3,000.00) and 3 items at $199.99 ($599.97). The subtotal is $3,599.97. A 10% discount of $360.00 leaves $3,239.97. GST at 15% on that is $486.00, so the total is $3,725.97. GST on the undiscounted subtotal would have been $540.00, which is $54.00 more than the amount charged here.
When to use the invoice generator
- Billing as a GST-registered contractor. Add your GST number and let the 15% line print on the PDF.
- Zero-rated sales. Type 0 in the GST rate box and the total equals the discounted subtotal.
- Checking a supplier's invoice. Re-enter their lines to confirm GST sits on the discounted amount and the total agrees.
- Sending a quote. Change the number and the terms sentence, and share the PDF as an estimate.
What the invoice generator does not do
- One GST rate and one discount are applied to every line.
- Prices are entered without GST. For a GST-inclusive price, divide by 1.15 before typing it in.
- The GST number is not validated and is printed as typed.
- The heading is always Invoice, and the tool does not add wording that your own invoices may need to carry.
- Currency changes alter the symbol only. Nothing is converted.
- No logo can be uploaded, and the PDF cannot print characters outside the Latin set.
When something else is a better fit
- When you file GST returns and invoice often, use accounting software linked to Inland Revenue.
- When you need the income tax on what you earn, use the Tax Calculator.
- When you are weighing a price cut, use the Discount Calculator.
Questions about the invoice generator
What GST rate does the invoice start with?
15%. New Zealand has one standard GST rate, so the rate menu has a single entry. Type 0 in the GST rate box for a zero-rated sale.
Is GST taken before the discount?
No, after. On $3,599.97 with 10% off, GST is $486.00 on $3,239.97 instead of $540.00 on the full amount.
Where does my GST number appear?
It prints under your address in the PDF, labelled GST number. Enter it in that box under From (Your Information).
Does the title change to Tax invoice?
No. That switch happens only for Australia. A New Zealand document keeps the heading Invoice at any rate.
Is anything sent to a server?
No. Your browser builds the PDF and keeps the draft locally. Download the file if you need a permanent copy.
